Collection: Flatweaves

Handmade flatweave rugs are unique in the world of floor coverings, distinct from the more common pile rugs by their lack of a knotted or tufted surface. Instead, they are created by interlacing the warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads on a loom, resulting in a flat, thin, and durable textile. Here's a closer look at their characteristics:
  • Flat Profile: As their name implies, flatweave rugs have a low profile and lay flat, making them ideal for areas with high traffic, under furniture, or in doorways, where a thick pile might be impractical.
  • Interlacing Technique: Warp threads are strung vertically on a loom, and the weft threads are woven horizontally through them to create the rug's fabric. This interlacing technique creates a sturdy and often reversible rug.
  • No Pile: Unlike pile rugs, which have knots tied around the warp threads to create a raised surface, flatweaves have no pile, offering a smooth surface.
