This rug is dated to around the 1880s and has been restored a few times in its lifetime. There are reweavings that date back to the early 1900s and some were done in more recent days.  However, the original cloth backing is still on it, and overall it is a great piece with lots of history.

Aubusson is a town on the Ceruse River in central France. It has been  famous for its carpets as well as tapestries since the 15th century. Antique Aubusson rugs made in tapestry technique are among the most elegant and luxurious antique floor coverings in the world.
